My handmade basement art.......

Here's the first thing I have hung on the wall of the before quite posted a lot basement project, the last post being of the oh so bright and cheerful color the girls picked out for their hangout room. Orange. What the heck goes with orange without the room turning into one big ode to a certain holiday? Maybe that's why the room isn't coming together very fast. Ha. Ha. Ha. Anyway, we were at JoAnn's fabrics a few weeks ago searching for something/anything that might match the room to make curtains when I came across the fabric you see in the background. On clearance no less. Yeah!!! Me!!! It wasn't good for curtains, but that didn't stop me from getting a yard to do "something with" one of these days. That's how my mother's basement got started I'm sure. But don't tell her I said that. Anyway, here is the end result, thanks to some of that fabric, a cheap 18 x 24 poster frame, and an Uppercase Living "W" that sis got me last year. At least I finally got around to using it somewhere. I don't think my little project turned out too bad.

Great Orange Balls '09

Okay... so I'm still running late this year... what's new? A few weeks before Halloween we carved and/or decorated our pumpkins, then the big night came....

Jessica's ode to the spud... really! Who thinks of potato head parts for those fab orange balls, and why the heck didn't I come up with that???
Kimberly's hack jobs......

The dreadful monsters........

And the after-loot collection....

Oh Happy Knee......

Well I just got back from my consult with the ortho doc a bit ago about my left knee. Above is the lovely, expensive MRI image of said knee. See the white stuff... it isn't supposed to be there. I basically have the knees of someone twice my age. Nice. Thanks to my family genes, weight, and work I've done all my life, I get to look forward to pain, more pain, daily meds (for now), injections of various drugs, and someday when I'm old enough, a knee replacement. Whoo hoo.... Wanna trade?

all done except for carpet....

Well, here's the almost 100% finished product... paint color and all!! Which the kiddos picked. I wanted an earth tone for the basement since the rest of the house is full of them, but somehow my idea of a shade of orange in the basement got twisted into this color which is much brighter than what I had in mind. But... it's the kids area since they are one of the main reasons the construction was done, they won. But only after about a week of going back and forth about it! The only thing left now is carpet, and it will be done soon.

Looking into the room from the doorway.
Now the opposite view.

The east wall, or at least part of it. The door goes into Jess's room.

And just another view of the ORANGE.

better late than never.....

Okay, so that first day of school was last Tuesday.... better late than never getting this posted. The getting up at 0530 & 0550 about killed them ha ha, but I enjoyed my day of peace and quiet. And thankfully they are both on the same time schedule again... and big sis is helping little sis, at least when she's not complaining about her! School should SO be year around, only in the interest of parent' sanity!

Work Continues......

We are getting closer and closer every week to being done!! Ceiling and paint, even if its boring white paint.....for now anyway. I still have no idea what I'm wanting down there. Basically trim and fixtures left.

Couple of Weeks from being done......

Here's the basement with dry-wall mud in place. Some sanding, painting, ceiling work, and trim is all really what's left of construction. Then I can pick out carpet and figure out wall color, still having no idea!! Ugh.
